Scouting in Henley
The Group prides itself on being one of the very first scout groups founded in the world, having celebrated its centenary in early 2008. It has operated continuously throughout the last 101 years and now forms part of an organization which has 28 million members in 216 countries and territories.
The purpose of Scouting is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
Organisation
1st Henley on Thames Scout Group is a recreational & educational charity, registered number 304429. The charity's principal object is to operate a Scout Group registered with the Scout Association.
The Scout Group is led by a Group Scout Leader and managed by the Group Executive Committee. They are accountable to the Group Council for the satisfactory running of the Group:
The Group Scout leader is appointed by the Scout Association on the recommendation of the District Commissioner.
The Group Executive Committee exists to support the Group Scout Leader in meeting the responsibilities of their appointment. The Committee is responsible for: the maintenance of the Group's property and equipment; the raising of funds and the administration of the Group's finance; the insurance of persons, property and equipment; Group public occasions; assisting with the recruitment of Leaders and other adult support. All members of the Group Executive Committee are Trustees of the Charity.
The Group Scout Council is the electoral body, which supports Scouting in the Scout Group. It is the body to which the Group Executive Committee is accountable. The Group Council consists of all current adult members of the group and the parents of young members plus patrol leaders and others nominated from time to time.
All adults involved with the Group provide their services on a purely voluntary basis: the Group has no paid officials.
