Subs
------
Historically we allow the Beavers a 2 session trial prior to paying subs.
Scarf/Investiture
----------------------
The only other requirement is for parents to buy a beaver sweatshirt (details below) which the child wears following investiture.
Investiture is normally after attendance at 4-5 sessions when the prospective beavers are formally invested and welcomed into scouting. We welcome parents to attend the ceremony which will last approx 15 minutes.
For investiture, the new beavers have to learn the beaver promise - but we do it as a group which should avoid late night nerves or 'burning; the midnight oil trying to learn it!.
Additionally scouting is entirely voluntary and so we rely on parental help to ensure that we satisfy legislative parent/child ratios - all parents help at one session a term for the 1.5 hours (sibling welcome along) - this helps us with ratio requirements plus also allows you to see what happens with your own eyes! Should you not be able to attend please try and swop your session with another parent.
If you would like to help more or have any suggestions please don't hesitate to communicate them! The more input that we have into the group especially at this young age keeps it exciting and enjoyable for all the kids..
Following investiture into beavers, badges (if earnt), scarves and woggles are issued.
Necessary forms!
------------------------
2) CRB forms - all parents to complete CRB forms for working with children (any cub/scout leader plus myself has copies) - this is a requirement and there will be unhappy beavers when they learn that they can't go on camps as their parents have not completed forms in time (lead time is 2 + months so if you want to go on the sept camp you need to complete them by July and submit them to myself) - details below and please see me for copies.
CRB additional details
---------------------------------
Both parents should complete CRB forms. It may be that only one ever comes to the weekly sessions but if you arrange weekend events the other parent might be involved and if, for instance, is providing transport for an event then they will need to be covered. If both parents came to any family camp you might arrange they would both need to be covered and frankly its extremely time-consuming trying to get CRB's rushed through on any normal timeline for organising a camp so it best sorted out long beforehand.
Some parents may have CRBs from elsewhere but we need our own: we don't know how old the information is in their other CRB and our insurers require us to hold the 'employer' copy of the CRB.
You need to provide your passport or driving licence plus 2 other forms of ID. In practice we find it easiest to ask to see the passport, driving licence and one utility bill - most people have these documents and are not too concerned about showing them. If anyone has problems with these you may need to go online and look at the actual CRB guide
Uniform details
---------------------
Once your child wishes to join the pack and make his/her promise, then you will need to buy a uniform. At this stage all we insist upon is the beaver sweatshirt (turquoise). You may wish to buy them the activity trousers or any of the other items available, however just the jumper is compulsory.
The uniform can be purchased from
